A Rush Trip Down to Stonehenge and London

22nd June 2010, Monday

What an uncomfortable and yet distressing night sleeping in the coach. I felt so irritated of the way the driver drives. Anyway, I forgive him! LOL. He just wanted to catch up with the coach in front and keep himself to the right route. Five hours of journey really kills my legs and back. My body seems paralyzed when I was trying hard to get up from my seat.

Reached Stonehenge around 4.30am. The bad news is ......... we need to take about 45 minutes (1KM) to arrive at the destination by FOOT! Walking for 1KM distance is actually not a big deal for me, but the cold weather (10 Celsius or even lower maybe?) makes me suffer the most. Along the way to Stonehenge, we could only see an endless flat grassland. Seriously, we suffered to the max! All of us numb with cold and shivered. Could not even talk!

Fortunately we reached on time, and we managed to see the sun rise. According to our tour guide, Zen, he said that we are the lucky one. The previous batch was late and missed the chance for sun rise view. When we arrived at Stonehenge, the place is already crowded with people. Everyone is waiting for the rising sun excitedly.

The sun starts to rise!
Everyone seems overly excited.
Shouting, screaming, dancing, clapping, singing......
The rising sun starts to brighten the sky.

What is so special of these piles of stones? Stonehenge is the most important historic monument in Britain. It was built up 5000 years ago. Stonehenge was constructed in 3 phrases and it is estimated that the construction took over 30 million hours of labour. Do you ever think that how the big pile of bluestones being moved from Prescelli Mountains in Pembroke, South Wales which is 245 miles (380KM) away? How did the labour put these bluestones (45 tons) to stand upright? These questions remain mysterious until today.

Closer view of the bluestones.

FYI, Stonehenge only opens 4 days in a year for public to go in closer to touch and feel the stones. Yes, we are the lucky one. Today was one of the days, Summer Solstice. Many people already there since yesterday night to celebrate the longest day of the year.

Can you see? Crowded with people! They messed up the place! And, we heard a group of people shouted, "FXXK Asian." WTF?!

Drunkers! Singing while sleeping.
On the way back to coach.

Endless flat grassland.

Next, we headed to the capital of England, London. It took another 2 and half hours to reach. London visit for today was kind of rush. Missed out some attractions like Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral and Kensington Palace.

Not forget to take some ss pics!

The changing of guard is the must-see event if you are visiting London. The band marching was held at Buckingham Palace. By the time I arrived at Buckingham Palace, they were performing the song titled, "Hey Jude".
