A Meaningful Day

A Meaningful Day

- 9th February 2009 -

This is my very first time involved in charity activity.

The charity activity was actually organised by LEO club from INTI university college. I was invited by Louis to join the activity as his gf, Momo is the member of LEO club.

Gang in the action : Bee Fong, Wei Kit, Louis, Pin Xien, Mei Yi and LC.

We've missed 1st station which is an orphanage located at Kapar, Klang. This was due to the late comers from Rawang. Fortunately, we were still able to catch up with LEO club members at 2nd station.

From here, we began our meaningful journey ...........

The 2nd station is an old folk house which consists of approximately 15 abandoned old folks. From my naked eyes, what I can see and best describe this old folk house is ..... a lack-home-finishings house with a mixture of loveless and pathetic feeling surrounded it. *heart broken* I hope our visit would bring a little happiness to them and cheer them up. The president from LEO club started to break the ice by singing Hokkien song and dancing together with them. While dancing, all of us slowly tapped into her rhythm and sang together. Everyone was so enjoyed. The smile that portrayed on their faces is just too sincere and true. It makes me feel so touched and blessed.

The 3rd station is a down syndrome association home. The owner brought us to their working room and explained their job scope. Looking at the job (ie : Putting 6 straws into a plastic packet and seal it), it is way too simple for a normal person like us. Yet, it is a challenging work for them whom suffer from slow learning and poor body movement. Seriously, we can't really communicate with them. All we can do is try our best to make them smile. We turned on music and tried to bring them dance together. They were quite passive and reluctant to mix with us in the beginning. But gradually we managed to arouse excitement among them and make them mingle with us comfortably.

The 4th station is another old folk house. It is more lively and more organised old folk house compared to the one we visited earlier this morning. We did the same thing as well. Singing, dancing, chit chatting with them. Out of a sudden, we saw an Indian auntie was sitting in a corner and burst into tears! I think she must be missing her son/daughter very much. We approached and passed her tissue. Without much talking, we pat her shoulder and hold her hands tightly, trying to give her our care and warmth. She wiped off her tears and stared at us with thankful eye gaze. Finally, she smiles! :)

Here ends our meaningful journey.

Today is one of a remarkable day in my life.
